Welcome to my website

My fascination with butterflies probably began as a small boy in England chasing Peacocks and Red Admirals across our garden. Then, years later, one fine day when developing an interest in photography, it occurred to me that it may be a challenge to photograph a butterfly. Inspired that summer of 1989 by the beautiful scenery and interesting butterfly fauna of the southern Lake District, where I was living for 6 months, slowly the passion developed… After many failed attempts, hundreds or more failed photographs and a couple of lens changes, I slowly developed a technique and managed to get some fairly decent results.

Years later, I found myself changing career and coming to Slovakia. At first not sure whether my chosen country would suit me, I now know I’ve found my natural paradise. Slovakia, although small, is covered in mountains, hills, forests and meadows. Most areas (especially 300m upwards) have escaped the ravages of intensive farming and population pressure on the land is much less than in Western Europe.
